Community Activities

Employees are encouraged to offer their expertise to social programs. May serve on the boards or committees of business development initiatives, charities, community ,sports and development, trusts, educational institutions and welfare organizations. GM South Africa plays an active role in enterprise development among previously disadvantaged persons.

Through the company’s corporate social investment program, GMSA provides support to a number of projects which includes arts and culture, sport and education.

The GM South Africa foundation was established in 1994 with the primary focus on the development of housing and educational projects. During 2001, the GMSA Foundation’s Centres of Learning Model for effective Educational Systems won the National Impumelelo Platinum Award for innovation in poverty reduction and community development. This model demonstrates how focused training in the field of leadership, governance, management and administration can establish a firm foundation for any previously dysfunctional school to enhance its quality of learning and teaching, and develop into a centre of excellence.
